Step It Up Seacoast
The initiative’s current focus is on reducing childhood obesity through 5210 Steps Up!
This public education campaign brings awareness to daily recommendations for nutrition and physical activity. Its message is simple, clear, and represents some of the most important steps families can take to prevent childhood obesity: 5 fruits and vegetables a day, 2 hours or less of screen time, 1 hour of physical activity, and 0 sugar sweetened beverages.
5210 Steps Up! works with teachers, childcare workers, doctors, nurses, after school programs, and the community to help bring this healthy message home. Gardens are sprouting up at schools, childcare settings, and in neighborhoods. Schools are encouraging children to choose healthier options for holiday celebrations and healthy foods are showing up in local school cafeterias.
