The Foundation for Seacoast Health is a nonprofit, private foundation funded through a combination of contributions from individuals and the proceeds from the sale of Portsmouth Hospital to Hospital Corporation of America in 1983.


Community Campus

Established in 1984, the Foundation has been a catalyst for positive change, promoting a wide range of creative initiatives to improve the health and well-being of Seacoast area residents. In its first decade of grant-making, the Foundation awarded over $6.8 million in grants to Seacoast nonprofits, and close to $1 million in scholarships to students pursuing health-related careers. In 1995, the Foundation received an additional $20 million from HCA, fulfilling the terms of its 1985 contract. This addition to our endowment, along with positive growth in our investments, gave the Foundation the financial resources to take another bold step forward with the development of Community Campus, one of the very first non-profit multi-tenant centers in the country.

By the end of 2006, the Foundation had awarded over $24 million in grants and over $2 million in scholarships (not including the capital investment and ongoing operational costs related to Community Campus). Today our total investment in our community exceeds $61 million dollars: $32 million in grants and scholarships with the remaining representing the in-kind contribution of the Campus.
